Biodegradable Plastic: ECM
Additive
How it works:
An
additive is introduced at the time the plastic is extruded; we are currently
using a product developed by ECM bio films. ECM’s technology is a process, which
enables the microorganisms in the environment to metabolize the molecular
structure of plastic films into an inert humus-like form that is harmless to the
environment.
Tests
concluded that the films were biodegradable under short and long-term aerobic
conditions and asserted that they would degrade under anaerobic conditions over

Life Cycle:
Bags
will biodegrade in 3-5 years once they are in an environment that has
microorganism activity
Key Selling Points:
Has a
very long shelf life, and requires no special storage, because. it only starts
to degrade in the presence of
microorganism activity.
Very
cost effective, only 10-15% more than conventional plastic bags.

Compostable Plastic

How it works
Certified Compostable PLA (Polylactic acid)
PLA is synthesized from processed corn or
other starch based renewable plant feedstock, and it biodegrades after use, if
commercially composted.
Life Cycle:
Bags have up to a 2 year shelf life
Bags may
compost within 2 weeks in a commercial compost setting.

Complies
with the strictest of municipal by laws
PLA uses
Renewable resources (Corn) in its production.
Making
PLA requires 30% to 50% less fossil fuel than polymers synthesized from
